lagunakeepers 2010-2011 schedule
LagunaKeepers are the Foundation's habitat restoration volunteers. Each month, in partnership with the City of Santa Rosa, we meet to give the Laguna a little hands-on love! This can mean fence removal, willow sprigging, weed control, or planting, depending on the site and the time of year.
Keepers meet at locations throughout the Laguna, but workdays are always on a Saturday, 9am - noon. Be sure to wear shoes & clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Only heavy rain cancels. Snacks are on us, but do bring gloves, water, and friends! LagunaKeepers 2010-2011 Event Calendar![]()

September 18: Duer Creek
We’ve got a thousand plants in on the west side of the road. On to the east side, where we’re adding about 1,500 more. Meet at Kelly Farm, 5344 Occidental Rd. across from Hanna Winery.
October 23: Delta Pond
A new planting site along Santa Rosa Creek, and a chance to check out an interesting product: DriWater! Is it dry, or is it water...? Enter the gate on the southwest side of Santa Rosa creek at Willowside Rd. (just north of Summerfield Waldorf school, 655 Willowside) and drive 1/2 mile to parking.
November 20: Irwin Creek
More work on the ever-expanding riparian empire along Irwin, where last year’s plantings are booming. Meet at Stone Farm (900 Sanford Rd.) & we’ll walk down to the site.
December 11: Stone Farm
Help us install the new Laguna Learning Center landscape, which will feature native plants, fruit trees & ornamentals reflecting the site’s agricultural history, and a children’s playscape. Meet at Stone Farm (900 Sanford Rd.)
January 22: Tree-a-Thon! (Rain date: January 29)
It was exciting last year to see 120 people planting trees at the same time. This year let’s shoot for 150 people (or more?). Meet at Stone Farm, 900 Sanford Rd.; we’ll walk down to the site.
February 12: Delta Pond
Returning to Delta Pond to cut and sprig willows. Great bang for the buck: there’s no cheaper plant material! Enter on the southwest side of Santa Rosa creek at Willowside Rd. (just north of Summerfield Waldorf school, 655 Willowside) and drive 1/2 mile to parking.
March 19: Meadowlark Field
More willow sprigging, and the start of the Open Space District’s massive planting project: 3,000 trees by 2015. Meet at the Chevron station just east of the Laguna at 5740 Hwy 12.
April 23: Native Plant Demonstration Garden / Joint Wetlands
Celebrate Earth Day by exploring the diversity of California native species at this lovely garden. We’ll also continue planting at the Joint Wetlands, where the swallows love to live. Meet at 4300 Llano Rd.; follow signs to the “Admin” building.
May 14: Laguna Uplands
A change of pace for this site: thistle attack! Join us to get your aggressions out on this nasty weed. Meet at the end of Palm Ave. in Sebastopol, just south of Palm Drive Hospital.
